Advanced Anti Colic Bottles Support
Find some answers to the most frequently asked questions about your Advanced Anti Colic Baby Bottle.
Is it ok to put bottles in the dishwasher?
Of course! Pop them on the top shelf though. As with all white and clear plastic things they can get a bit stained and yucky-looking in the dishwasher (blame that bolognese sauce or carrot soup you had last night). If they do get discoloured there’s nothing to worry about - they’re perfectly safe, they just don’t look as inviting!
Why is the teat collapsing when my baby is feeding?
The Closer to Nature Advanced Anti Colic bottle's round dome valve, which fits onto the bottom of the venting tube is very sensitive as it is made of specially designed silicone material. This can sometimes stick together when not used for periods of time or before first use. To ensure the slit in the dome valve is open you should wash all parts in warm soapy water, rinse in clean water and sterilise.
Reassemble your bottle as per the instructions. When assembling your bottle it is important that you check the valve at the base of the stem by holding it to the light to check that the slit in the silicone has not sealed closed. If it has sealed closed, pull apart gently between your fingers to re-open. If the valve has sealed closed your bottle will not vent properly.

The valve at the end of the tube has no slit in it?
The key thing here is to place the bottle and all its parts in boiling water for 5-minutes, then to wash them in warm soapy water before first use. This is not only for hygiene, as it will also help open the slit in the silicone valve. The slit in the valve, when taken straight out of the pack, may appear to be closed, however following this process will help it open.
Before each use thereafter - when assembling your bottle, check the valve by holding it to the light, as the slit can close if not used regularly. Not to worry if it has sealed closed as you can pull it apart with your fingers to ease it open.

Why do my Advanced Anti Colic Bottles leak?
There are a couple of reasons this could happen. The first is simple. Take a look at the domed valve and you’ll see a small slit running across it. This allows air to flow up the straw and out of a small air hole. If water is too hot when you put it in the bottle, it can enter the straw and travel up to the air hole on the screw ring, causing a leak. The solution is to let the water cool for a while after it’s boiled, before you pour it in. According to WHO (World Health Organisation) 30 minutes is the perfect cooling time.
The second reason your bottle could leak around the screw ring is that the round silicone valve at the base of the straw is torn. If that’s the case, please get in touch with our Careline team via our Contact Us page. They will provide a replacement if your product is damaged.
Can I buy bottles with faster flow teats?
Sorry, nope. Most parents stock up on bottles before baby arrives, so all our bottles come with slow flow teats as standard. They’re best for newborns. As your baby grows and can feed more quickly, you can buy replacement teats. We do a medium flow which most babies are ready for at around 3 months, and a fast flow teat which is best from around 6 months. These ages are only guides though - you know your baby better than anyone and will be able to tell when they’re ready for a faster flow.
Can I get spare parts for my bottles?
Absolutely! Drop us a message through our contact us page and we’ll review that for you.
Can I recycle my bottles when I’m done?
Yep. Our Closer to Nature® bottles are made from polypropylene (PP) that can happily be recycled.
Can I store breast milk in bottles?
Our bottles would love to look after your breast milk. We even have special lids you can pop on to store your milk in the fridge or freezer.
I hear bad things about BPA - is it in your bottles? (& what is it anyway?)
All Tommee Tippee bottles are BPA-free. They are made of a plastic called polypropylene that’s lightweight, easy to clean, and completely safe. BPA - that’s (CH₃)₂C(C₆H₄OH)₂ for you science geeks - is a chemical that’s been used in some plastics since the 1960s and it can mess around with your hormones. It’s generally not good, so we don’t use it.
Why is my bottle misshapen?
Our bottles have a unique ‘waisted’ design that makes them cute and easy to hold. If your bottle has lost its shape, it could be that you’ve poured boiling water in then put the lid and teat on a bit too soon. Doing this can cause a vacuum to build up, which can suck the bottle inwards into a bit of an odd shape. The best bet (as endorsed by WHO - World Health Organisation) is to let freshly boiled water cool for around 30 minutes before making up a feed. This will make sure your Tommee Tippee bottle keeps its cute waisted shape.
What’s the difference with Advanced Anti Colic compared to Advanced Comfort?
Not only are they now decorated, following on from our very successful Closer to Nature range, the inner tube now also has heat sensing capabilities.
At what temperature will the tube turn pink – indicating that the milk is too hot?
The tube will begin to turn a purple colour from 35°C and when getting up towards 41°C it will change to pink, indicating that the milk needs more time to cool.
What happens if I put the tube in straight after I’ve made a feed?
When making up a feed – we would advise to leave boiling water to cool for the usual 30-minutes (if using a kettle), then to leave it for a further 15-minutes, if not cooling using other means e.g. putting the bottle into cold water, before placing the heat sensing tube into the bottle.
If the tube is placed into boiling water, it won’t damage it, but the tube will naturally turn bright pink to warn that it’s too hot.
What’s the best way to test the milk with the heat sensing tube?
There’s no need to put the tube all the way in – simply dip the tube into the milk, removing it to see the colour of the tube tip. About an inch into the milk should be all you need to test the temperature.
